Maya made tickets for a pretend train ride in the garden. She drew a moon on each one and stamped it with a star.

On the last ticket, the star landed upside down.

“Oh,” she said. “That one is spoiled.”

Comet tilted his head. “Is a star upside down if it is in the sky?”

Maya looked again. The stamp had five bright points, whichever way she turned it.

She wrote NIGHT GARDEN beside it and handed the ticket to Ada the owl.

“This is my favorite,” Ada said. “It looks like a star turning a little cartwheel.”

Maya still wanted to practice stamping neatly. The baker gave her scrap paper, and she tried again without throwing her ticket away.

When their pretend train reached the flower beds, Ada held her cartwheel star up to the evening sky.

Maya smiled. A small mistake had not stopped the journey. It had given one traveler something new to enjoy.
