Maya was learning a new song for the garden gathering. At bedtime, she kept wondering whether she would remember all the words.

She told the gardener, who sat beside her with a notebook.

“Let’s make a little plan for tomorrow,” the gardener said.

Maya wrote PRACTICE THE FIRST VERSE AFTER BREAKFAST. Then she drew a lantern beside the words.

“What if I forget?” she asked.

“I can sing beside you,” the gardener replied. “And your note will remind us.”

Maya put the notebook on the breakfast table. Her thought had a place to wait until morning.

Comet curled onto his cushion. Maya chose a familiar book, and the gardener read its soft opening lines.

She still cared about the song. She did not need to solve the whole thing tonight.

Before closing her eyes, she pictured her paper lantern. Tomorrow had one small next step, and tonight had a warm blanket and someone listening.
