Pip had two striped socks. After laundry day, he could find only one.

“Perhaps the other flew away,” Comet said.

Maya looked at the laundry basket. “Let’s follow where the clothes went.”

First they checked the empty basket. No sock. Next they checked the folding table. No sock there, either.

Pip remembered carrying his clean blanket to the chair.

Maya lifted the blanket gently. A striped toe peeked out from a fold.

“There it is!” Pip said.

The sock had not flown away. It had ridden inside the blanket.

Pip put both socks in his drawer. He made a little picture of a pair of socks to remind himself to match them while folding.

Comet stretched beside the chair. “A blanket ride sounds nice.”

Pip tucked the blanket around him. Maya sat nearby with a book, and the laundry puzzle ended with one comfortable fox and two neatly paired socks.
