The baker asked Comet to put six moonberry buns in a box. The buns smelled warm and sweet.
Comet picked up one bun. A berry rolled off. When he tried to catch it, his paw bumped the box. One bun fell onto the floor.
He looked at the baker, who was washing a bowl. Comet could close the box and say nothing.
Instead, he took a breath. “I dropped a bun,” he said.
“Thank you for telling me,” the baker replied. “We won’t serve food from the floor. Let’s clean up.”
Comet helped sweep the crumbs. The baker put a fresh bun in the box and showed him how to set it farther from the edge.
Maya helped him count all six.
On the walk home, Comet’s paws felt lighter. The dropped bun had been a mistake. Telling the truth had helped them fix it before someone opened the box.
